Replacing the timing belt for an Acura is due at 160,000km or 7 years, (Some older Acura’s are due every 96,000km) whichever comes first. This is something that should not be avoided. The timing belt keeps your engines overhead camshafts operating correctly and ensures that all valves are in their proper place. If your timing belt breaks or skips, your valves will be smashed by the pistons and your Acura’s engine will stop functioning. The engine will need a cylinder head replacement or a complete rebuild altogether, depending on the damage. This will cost you considerably money then just replacing your Acura’s timing belt.

 

 You will also be advised to consider replacing the timing belt tensioner, as well as the water pump, which are recommended for replacement at the same time as the timing belt. You will save the cost of labour if you installing these components while replacing your timing belt. The labour rate would equal the cost of the timing belt replacement if these parts are installed separately. The water pump cools the engine by circulating coolant around the block back to the radiator. If the water pump is worn, a coolant leakage could result, which might not only lead to an overheated engine, but compromise the operation of the timing belt.
