The second-generation Acura TLX is making a big departure from its previously sedate styling, taking inspiration from the Type S concept and bringing in a host of new tech.

In a new small teaser video, we get a quick look at the rear end of the sedan, which clearly takes design cues from the 2016 Acura Precision Concept, as well as the Type S Concept that debuted at Monterey Car Week 2019.

Acura says the new TLX will be the "quickest, best-handling and most well-appointed sport sedan in Acura history", which is a lofty claim, but not an impossible goal.

There will also apparently be a Type S variant to mark the "model's performance pinnacle," powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 that will make its debut in the redesigned TLX. The last time we saw a Type S variant in the Acura lineup was more than 10 years ago, in the TL.

The Type S variant could be what Acura needs to set itself apart from parent company Honda, which recently revived the Type R badge on its Civic. The trim levels used to go hand-in-hand when the vehicles shared a platform, but now Acura will use the performance-associated badge to elevate its lineup.

The turbocharged V6 still remains somewhat of a mystery, as power figures haven't been discussed. The engine will eventually make its way onto other vehicles in the Acura lineup.
