It is now the Integra's turn to join the Type S family after being unveiled at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in California. The improvements are numerous and, although it seems less radical than its Honda twin aesthetically, the Japanese manufacturer's sports car offers performances as impressive as those of the Civic Type R.

• A turbocharged engine with 320 horsepower

• The Integra Type S offers a 2.8-inch wider body

• There is only one transmission available, a 6-speed manual gearbox.

It may be less impressive than the Honda Civic Type R aesthetically, but the Acura Integra Type S is still capable of turning heads. Its front and rear bumpers are more aggressive than those of other Integra versions. It also benefits from a huge air intake on the hood, but the element that gives the Type S version a more imposing stance are the wider fenders that add 2.8 inches to the body.

The 2024 Acura Integra Type S is not lacking in technology. It features a 9-inch touchscreen and Apple Car Play and Android auto wireless connectivity systems. Standard equipment includes a head-up display, a 16-speaker ELS STUDIO audio system, a digital dashboard displayed on a 10.2-inch screen, a wireless charging pad for compatible devices, and much more. The Japanese manufacturer's small sports sedan also offers numerous driving assistance technologies with the AcuraWatch suite.

A more radical Integra

In its press release, Acura compares the all-new Integra Type S to its "regular" A-Spec version. The latter is not an entry-level car and already offers interesting performances with its 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that develops 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. As for the 2024 Integra Type S, it features a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 320 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Moreover, this is not the only area where the ultimate version of the small Japanese sedan stands out from the rest of the range. It features larger wheels with a diameter of 19 inches and a width of 9.5 inches. These are mounted on low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires that are 265 mm wide. Not to mention the larger brake discs, 13.8 inches at the front and 12.0 inches at the rear. To give you an idea, some versions of the Integra were equipped with 14-inch wheels in the 1990s.

There is only one transmission option, a 6-speed manual gearbox with a Rev-Match function that adjusts the engine speed for optimal gear changes. It is coupled with a limited-slip differential for an even sportier driving experience.

Needless to say, the 2024 Acura Integra Type S is a car that we are eagerly anticipating. It will be assembled at the Marysville factory in Ohio, along with the TLX Type S. The new sports version of the small Japanese sedan will be launched in June 2023, and Acura is expected to reveal its price in the coming weeks.
